On March 22, 2021, Niantic and Nintendo announced the mobile game Pikmin Bloom, which was released on October 26, 2021, in Australia and Singapore, and on October 28, 2021, in the United States and Canada. Pikmin 4 was released for the Nintendo Switch on July 21st 2023. Pikmin 3 was re-released for the Nintendo Switch as Pikmin 3 Deluxe on October 30, 2020. The first handheld game in the series, Hey! Pikmin, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2017. In 2020, Nintendo uploaded these shorts on their YouTube channel, where they can be watched free of charge. Some animated shorts hinted at during the development of Pikmin 3 were released in 2014 for the Wii U and 3DS eShop for around five US dollars, with the Wii U version being in HD, and the 3DS version being in 3D. A third instalment, Pikmin 3, was released for the Wii U in 2013. Pikmin 2 was re-released in the Nintendo Selects series in 2012. The first two, Pikmin (2001) and Pikmin 2 (2004), were released for the GameCube and later ported to the Wii as New Play Control! titles in 20. The Pikmin series features three main entries and two spin-offs. The games focus on directing a horde of intelligent plant-like creatures called Pikmin in order to collect items by destroying obstacles, avoiding hazards and fighting fauna that are hazardous to both the player character and the Pikmin. Pikmin is a series of real-time strategy and puzzle video games created by Shigeru Miyamoto and published by Nintendo.
